Advisory
This week's theme : Optimism
Optimism is connected to well being through stress reduction. When we have more optimistic mindsets, we are better able to handle stress and still feel happy.
Mr. Korvin says that research shows that optimistic people even live longer!
So, what is the key to finding the an optimistic perspective?
Practice of course!
This week we are going to practice ‘REFRAMING STRESSORS’.
Self-isolation at home can create lots of unique causes of stress.
One of the major stressors people are experiencing is the “CANCELLATION” of many of the events and opportunities that we are used to looking forward to at this time of year. With this in mind, our task this week is to practice optimism through completing this statement:
Something that isn’t cancelled is:__________.
No need to make it a huge grandiose gesture, just like gratitude it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference.
You will be asked to share your statement at our class meeting on Tuesday May 5th at 11 a.m.

As with all learning opportunities being offered, students and families are reminded to take on only what works for them at this time; there is no obligation to participate in these activities, they are extension opportunities.
The intention of this resource is to offer students choice to explore areas that are of interest to them and bring joy. Students who choose to participate have the freedom to choose activities that support their well-being during this challenging time. There is no expectation that students complete activities in-line with their previously scheduled classes.
These opportunities will be accessible through the ‘Exploring KVR’ website, and include options that align with in-school Exploratories including Art, Music, Tech. Ed., Computers and Home Ec.
The site will also offer Digital Library Resources, Counselling Resources and Physical and Health Education resources to continue to foster and support overall wellness, including physical activity, mental well-being and digital citizenship.
Students can share pictures and videos of their learning by emailing them to [email protected]. We look forward to seeing KVR students explore!
